Dental implants are the most effective tooth replacement option available. Unlike bridges and dentures, implants provide a permanent solution to missing teeth while also supporting the health of your jawbone. If youāre missing a full arch of teeth, however, you may be daunted by the idea of replacing every single tooth with a dental implant. Guess what? You donāt have to. All-on-6 dental implants can restore a full arch of teeth with just six implants. By adding two implants to the All-On-4Ā® tooth replacement solution, All-on-6 maximizes strength, stability, and jawbone health, giving you a complete smile makeover that functions beautifully as well.

All-on-6 implants work by surgically inserting six dental implants in the upper or lower arch to support a full set of prosthetic teeth. Four implants are placed at the front, and two in the back. The implants are surgically inserted at an angle to provide maximum support and stability. Abutments are attached to the implants, and a complete arch of custom-fitted replacement teeth is attached to the abutments. The prosthesis looks and feels like natural teeth. The All-on-6 implant system restores not only the beauty of the smile, but also the function.
Getting a full mouth of All-on-6 dental implants is a transformative process that typically takes several months from start to finish, although the actual implant placement procedure itself only takes a few hours.
The total treatment time depends on your individual dental needs. Some patients require preliminary procedures such as tooth extractions, bone grafting, or sinus lifts to prepare the mouth for implants. Others may be ready to proceed directly to implant placement.
Once any preparatory steps are complete, the All-on-6 dental implant procedure itself is typically completed in a single day. During this appointment, the implants are placed, and a temporary prosthesis (set of teeth) is attached ā allowing you to leave the office the same day with a fully functional, natural-looking smile.
The treatment process begins with an examination and evaluation to determine whether the patient is a good candidate for the surgery. An individual treatment plan is then designed to optimize the patientās oral health prior to surgery. This may include tooth extraction, a course of antibiotics, a sinus lift, or other procedure. In many cases, the patient needs no preliminary procedures at all. Preoperative and postoperative instructions are given to the patient in order to help them prepare for surgery and plan for after-care.
On the day of your All-on-6 surgery, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia (or sedation, if needed).
Our oral surgeon will:
The entire procedure typically takes 3 to 5 hours, depending on the complexity of the case.
After surgery, youāll go home with a fixed temporary bridge that looks and functions much like natural teeth ā allowing you to eat soft foods and smile with confidence right away. Once the anesthesia wears off, you may experience some tenderness or swelling, which is completely normal. Dr. Hage will provide detailed aftercare instructions and prescribe medication to help manage any postoperative discomfort. Most patients find that pain and swelling subside within about 10 days, making recovery smooth and comfortable.
Over the next few months, your jawbone naturally heals and bonds with the implants in a process called osseointegration.
This biological fusion creates a strong, stable foundation ā mimicking the strength of natural tooth roots.
During this healing phase:
Osseointegration usually takes three to six months, depending on individual healing time and bone quality.
Once osseointegration is complete, youāll return to your dentist to have your final set of custom-made teeth (the permanent prosthesis) attached.
These final restorations are:
The standard implant procedure involves one implant for each missing tooth. But for people who have a full set of missing teeth, this can be prohibitively extensive and expensive. Rather than using 16 implants to replace 16 teeth, however, the All-on-6 system uses just 6 implants, resulting in a full smile restoration for a fraction of what it would cost to replace every single missing tooth with an implant. All-on-6 is a variation of the All-On-4Ā® implant technique in which just four implants are used to support a full arch of teeth. The two additional implants provide more strength and stability for the jawbone.
The All-on-6 dental implant technique has a number of advantages that make it a great smile restoration option for people missing a full arch of teeth. These include:
If youāre missing a full arch of teeth, chances are youāre also missing some of the most important pleasures of life, including the ability to eat the foods you love and to smile and laugh without shame or embarrassment. All-on-6 can restore your confidence and give you a new lease on life.
